5th Global Chinese Cultural Voices Concludes in Kuala Lumpur

84 Participants Take the Stage, 9 OKU Performers Inspire the Audience, Gold Award Winners Invited to 2027 National Children’s Spring Festival Gala in Beijing

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA — 16 August 2026 — The 5th Global Chinese Cultural Voices, themed “Cultural Heritage · Shining Globally,” concluded successfully at DeSTAGE Theatre in Kuala Lumpur, bringing together 34 groups and 84 participants from across Malaysia for a celebration of Chinese culture, performing arts and social inclusion.

Participants ranging in age from six to over 80 presented a diverse programme encompassing dance, vocal performance, instrumental music, martial arts, theatre, qipao presentation and calligraphy.

Rather than limiting participation to professionally trained performers, the platform was created to provide people from different generations and backgrounds with an opportunity to experience the stage, express their passion and contribute to the continuation of Chinese cultural traditions.

The participants included individuals with visual impairment, physical disabilities and those requiring special assistance. Despite the challenges they faced, they took to the stage alongside all other contestants and were evaluated under the same judging standards.

Several achieved outstanding results based entirely on merit.

Lim Lee Qi received a Gold Award for her dance performance Little Apple, Tan Soo Yi was awarded Gold for her rendition of When Will the Moon Be So Bright, while Hee Chee Choong received Gold for Us, an original song created from the perspective of a person with disabilities.

Other OKU participants also received Silver and Bronze Awards.

Participation fees for all nine OKU performers were fully sponsored by generous supporters, reflecting the event’s long-standing belief that “Culture has no walls, and art has no borders.”

The overall Grand Champion title was awarded to Summer Nights of Childhood, a dance presented by students from SJK(C) Lai Chee in Kuala Lumpur. The performance was recognised by the adjudication panel for its artistic quality, youthful energy and overall stage presentation.

Another significant development arising from the fifth edition is a new cultural exchange opportunity in China.

According to an official invitation issued by the Organising Committee of the National Children’s Spring Festival Gala in China, Gold Award recipients from the 5th Global Chinese Cultural Voices have been invited to participate in the recording of “Young China · 2027 National Children’s Spring Festival Gala.”

The programme is scheduled to take place in Beijing in late January 2027, with recording activities planned from 23 to 26 January 2027 at the Beijing Xingguang Television Programme Production Base.

The invitation marks an important extension of the platform beyond Malaysia and provides outstanding participants with an opportunity to engage with a larger cultural stage in China.

According to the organiser, the fifth edition also received support associated with the International Dance Council (CID). CID representative Ms. Eleni Kouki delivered a specially recorded video message congratulating the organisers and participants.

Chairperson of the Organising Committee Yap Lee Peng said the journey to the fifth edition had not always been easy.

She spoke openly during the opening ceremony about the financial challenges, organisational pressure and moments of uncertainty experienced throughout the five-year journey. However, she said that seeing performers step onto the stage with confidence and passion remained the reason behind continuing the initiative.

“Whatever the final result may be, the moment you step onto this stage, you have already achieved something,” she said.

“You chose courage. You chose passion. You chose to allow the world to see you. That is why this stage exists.”

She also reiterated one of the platform’s central messages:

“Passion itself is the qualification. You do not have to be perfect. As long as you genuinely love what you do, you deserve the opportunity to stand on the stage.”

Five professional adjudicators from different fields evaluated all 34 competing programmes using a 100-point scoring system. The organiser said maintaining consistency, professionalism and impartiality in adjudication remained fundamental to the credibility of the platform.

The conclusion of the Malaysia in-person showcase does not mark the end of the fifth edition.

The programme is now moving into Phase Two — Global Online Selection, allowing Chinese cultural arts practitioners and enthusiasts from different parts of the world to participate remotely.

The Global Online Selection will remain open until 31 October 2026, followed by Online Public Voting from 15 to 30 November 2026. An Online Exchange Gala is scheduled for 20 December 2026, followed by a Chinese New Year Global Live Broadcast planned for 13 February 2027.

Through its combination of cultural heritage, performing arts, education, social inclusion and international exchange, the 5th Global Chinese Cultural Voices seeks to create a platform where children, adults, senior citizens and persons with disabilities can be seen and heard equally.

From 84 performers sharing a stage in Kuala Lumpur, to nine OKU participants demonstrating the power of perseverance, and Gold Award winners receiving an invitation to perform in Beijing, organisers believe the fifth edition reflects a broader purpose beyond competition.

Its mission, they said, is to continue building connections between Malaysia, China and cultural communities around the world through the arts.

“Let the flame of Chinese culture burn — in every corner of the world — never to be extinguished.”
